Solid and dependable spot to grab a Japanese bento for lunch. Or sushi. Or a donburi. Or a bowl of udon. Or so much more.
Tenmatsu is not short on choice for the FiDi worker looking for a quick Japanese lunch fix. Making a decision is probably the longest part. Pick your choice, pay, and you're on your way.
Personal favorites include the savory gyudon, bright sashimi salad, and for a snack - why not a spam musubi for later? The beef bowl has good flavor and with the rice is quite Asian comfort food. You can get the salad with the sesame vinaigrette on it's own but go with the sashimi upgrade.
Mealpal options here included a teriyaki salmon bowl but perhaps a little too skinny a slice. Better to just grab and go from the regular menu here and it's just as fast. -

Tenmatsu is a good grab and go place on Kearny st that I frequently visit. It sells lots of Japanese bentos that not only taste good but also convenient to carry around.
My favorite dish is by far the beef gyu-don. It is marinated sliced beef with onions on top of rice. The portion is huge and the meat gets its salty flavor from soy sauce and is great with the slight sweet and spicy onions.
Do keep in mind there is no seat inside tho -

I ordered a salmon teriyaki donburi on Ritual around lunch time. It was ready to pick up really quickly. This is a small grab-pay-and-go place. It can get pretty crowded, so ordering ahead is a good idea. The salmon teriyaki donburi is so good! I love getting this dish, the salmon is tasty and doesn't have the fishy smell or taste, the teriyaki sauce glistens on the fish and adds a light sweet taste, the veggies are steamed and seasoned well, the pickled daikon gives a nice crunch, and they give a decent amount of rice and food. It's pretty filling! I would recommend this place if you want fast to-go Japanese food.

This place used to be my go to when I first moved to San Francisco from New York. Always brought first dates, including my future spouse. There were many people who came to visit the city by the bay. Tenmatsu, and House of Prime Rib were places were I took them.

This has been my go-to for lunch since stumbling upon it in my work lunch adventures. Their food is pretty fresh, tasty, and filling. I have tried mostly the veggie/soy donburis and only one of the sushi boxes. Their prices are average for the area. I like that it's grab and go. Come early and if you bring cash, wait time is usually a little shorter. They also have cute little sides like onigiri, seaweed salad, mini cheesecakes. The only small gripe I have is that the broccoli is kinda hard and (I think) just blanched. But I understand that under heat, it will probably wither so this is better. I'll be back to try the other sushi!
